Frank Zappa Monument
Kalinausko Street 1, Vilnius

Another project that suggests anachronism and displacement is the Frank Zappa monument in Vilnius. Paradoxically, the author of the monument Konstantinas Bogdanas in the Soviet times sculpted many Lenins, and other communist leaders. You may find these and many other Soviet sculptures in Grūtas Park which is located a bit further from Vilnius. Asked about the idea behind the monument, Vilnius photographer Saulius Paukštys answers that at the time (in 1994) this project seemed to be a good chance to test the limits of Lithuanian democracy. Therefore, this monument may also be seen as a monument to democracy. VK, 2009
